B-52 Stratofortress
The B-52 Stratofortress
This amazing plane was built because their was a specification for a long range, intercontinental, high altitude, strategic bomber to replace the B-36 peacemaker. So, Boeing Military Airplane Co. got to work, building this extraordinary plane and succeeded. Some off the designs were made at a hotel in Dayton, Ohio. The Unit Cost for the plane was a whopping 84 million dollars! Which makes sense for such a massive plane. At 185,000 pounds, 40 ft. 8 in. high and 159 ft. 4in. long, this plane was huge. That's not it yet, this enormous plane has a wingspan of 185 ft.! It also have a top speed of 650 mph and can fly up to altitudes of 50,000 ft. Seems like all that money payed off. The first flight of the B-52 Stratofortress varies on the model. Of all the models, the range of first flights extends from April 15, 1952 to March 9, 1956. Since then the B-52 Stratofortress has been in the air force for the last 54 years. After all the hard work and money Boeing put ion the B-52 Stratofortress it really lived up to its limits.
