The Bell X-1

The Bell X-1 was made in October 14,1946. It was made to fly faster than sound. The Bell X-1 was made in the Bell Aircraft Corp. They made the plane out of aluminum the planes, the weight was 5,557 pounds. Bell X-1 was designed like a bullet with wings. A man named Chuck Yeager was up to the challenge to fly this plane ,because he wanted to be the first pilot to fly faster than sound. The Bell X-1 had many names like Super Sonic, Bell X-1, Glamorous Glennis, and XS-1. Chuck Yeager named the plane Glamorous Glennis in honor of his wife. When Chuck Yeager was going to break the record for flying faster than sound he was in a group with other planes. Chuck Yeager had victory, he flew faster than sound. Chuck Yeager was 130 feet in the air and at 957 mph. Today the plane is at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC.
