by Cooper
The AV-8B Harrier II made by Boeing and Rolls Royce can travel up to 629 mph and is capable of taking off in 1,200 feet and landing vertically. Early forms of the AV-8B Harrier II were created when the Royal Air Force needed a plane that could take off and land in small areas so when Marines went into battle they could have immediate air support. The plane is 46 feet long and 11 feet tall and weighs 12,500 pounds. The plane is extremely expensive at $23,700,000 but it is worth it because it has capabilities that no other jet can do. The AV-8B Harrier II can hover above ground like a helicopter by using their exhaust nozzles and point them to go in different directions. The AV-8B Harrier II is armed Maverick Missiles and the main purpose of the AV-8B Harrier II is to be able to take off on roads and other terrain near fighting to support solders in the battle. Overall the AV-8B Harrier II is a very unique jet.
