The B-52 Stratofortress is a bomber used by the USAF (United States Air Force).It is the biggest bomber in the Air Force. The wings stretch 185 feet from tip to tip and its range is 10,000 miles. It weighs 172,743 pounds when empty and its rate of climb is 6,270 feet per minute. The B-52 Stratofortress has a top speed of 595 miles per hour. Its nickname is the "Big Ugly Fat Fellow" (BUFF). It was created on June 5th, 1946, made by the Boeing Military Airplane Company. Its origin is the USA. It flew its first flight in April 1952. The B-52 Stratofortress' initial year of service was 1955. The plane holds a crew of 5 people including the aircraft commander, the pilot, the radar navigator, the navigator, and the electronic warfare officer. There are many B-52 Stratofortresses in military bases around the country. The B-52 Stratofortress holds the title of the longest serving bomber in the US Air Force, serving 54 years.
