Lockheed P-38 Lightning
HISTORY
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was an incredible plane in history. It was designed by Lockheed "brain child" Clarence "kelly" Johnson and was built under tight secrecy. It was designed to be a military plane that made its maiden flight on january 27th, 1939. It was nicknamed the "Forked-tailed devil" by the Germans (Der GabelSchwanz Teufel)
WEAPONARY
This highly recognizable warbird served the U.S. armed forces very well in World War II mostly in Pacific air battles. As the fastest and most heavily armed fighter, concentration in the Lightning's nose was so effective, that one burst could destroy an enemy plane. Carrying bombs, rockets, and guns, the Lightning could sink a ship in one blow.

Its max speed is 414 mph, max range is 2,237 miles, service ceiling is 43,963 feet, and rate of climb is 2,500 fpm. Its weight is, 4,100 lb (empty) or 17,500 lb (operational), wing span at 52 ft, length of 37 ft, 10 inches, and hight of 12 ft , 10 inches.

2 liquid cooled, Allison v-1710 engines turning 11 1/2 foot Curtiss electric inward facing propellers, Twin boom configuration, 20 mm cannon and tricycle landing gear made this warbird the complete package!
